Sergeant Mueller was born in St Paul, MN on Mar 31, 1930, was raised in Buckman, MN, and was a graduate of the Little Falls, MN High School Class of 1948. He was married to Jeanine M. Hanley on Jun 3, 1950. He was formerly employed by Farwell, Ozmun and Kirk, of St Paul. A member of the U.S. Army Reserve, he was called to Active Duty in Oct 1950, and was transferred to Japan and then later to Korea. On Feb 13, 1951, Sergeant Mueller was a crew member of the U.S. Army's "D" Battery, 82nd Anti-Aircraft Artillery (Automatic Weapons) Battalion, 2nd Infantry Division, when he was reported captured during a battle with opposing forces near Hoengsong, South Korea. After a long march to North Korea, injured and exhausted, his death was reported on May 3, 1951. His remains were recovered near the Suan Bean POW Camp in North Korea and returned to U.S. custody in May 1992. His remains were recently identified by DNA testing.
Gerald was preceded in death by his infant son, Gerald M. Mueller, Jr. Since Gerald's passing, his wife Jeanine M. (nee Hanley)(Mueller) Ronnan; mother Agatha (Mueller) Beckwith; brother Robert L. Beckwith; sister Mary Jane Beckwith; Grandparents Mathias & Anna Mueller, Godparents Joseph and Lorraine Britz; and numerous family members have deceased.
Survived by brother Gregory C. (Jolene) Beckwith, Frisco, TX; sister-in-law Janice K. Beckwith, Burnsville, MN; aunts Mary Ann Mueller and Colette (Mueller) Mencacci, St Paul MN, and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
A Mass of the Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, Nov 8, 2017, at 11:00, at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 515 Albert St. S., St Paul MN. Visitation one hour before Mass at the Church.
