David Earl Nystrom (age 67) passed away peacefully from liver disease with his wife Phyllis by his side on March 25, 2025. David loved being a girl dad and was very proud of them. He enjoyed telling stories, spending time with family and friends, fishing, hunting, skeet shooting, and ushering at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church. He was a member of the American Legion, Masonic Temple, and an active member of Norske Torske Klubben. David was proud of serving as an MP and paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne Division, spending time in South Korea. After graduating from the University of Minnesota, he stayed loyal to the Golden Gophers and relished cheering against the University of Illinois, his wife’s alma mater. He retired from Midwest Hardwood in January 2024 after 32 years. A true Minnesota boy, David spent the majority of his life in Saint Paul, Minnesota.
He is preceded in death by his parents Orrin and Toni Nystrom.
He is survived by his loving wife of 32 years Phyllis Nystrom; daughters Kathleen (Tyler) Blumke and Maureen (Gino Ciccarelli); grandson Henry David Blumke; siblings Connie Sedacca from California, Susie Schuldt from Minnesota, Marilou (Ron) Larson from Florida, and John (Jayne) Nystrom from Minnesota; godmother Alice Dornseif from Wisconsin. David will be sorely missed by numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, brothers and sisters in-law, family, and friends.
There will be a visitation at Kessler Maguire Funeral Home (640 West 7th St., Saint Paul, MN 55102) from 4-7PM on April 3, 2025. David’s funeral service will be held at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church (700 Snelling Ave S, St Paul, MN 55116) on April 4, 2025 at 11 AM. A graveside service will follow at Fort Snelling National Cemetery (7601 34th Ave S, Minneapolis, MN 55450).
