Donald David Michalec Sr. of St. Paul, passed away in his home on July 11, 2023, at the age of 80.
Don was born on June 16, 1943, in Ashland, WI, to Frank and Joyce Michalec. In 1964, he married Lavonne Michalec in St. Paul, MN and together they raised five children.
He will be deeply missed by his children: Laurie Harvieux (Tom), Donald Michalec Jr (Deb), Brooks Michalec (Sharon), Jim Michalec (Stephanie), Mark Michalec (Lisa), and Todd Simanski (Julie). He was also a grandfather to six grandchildren: Sarah (Connor), Brian, Anna, Robert, Alex, and Kasandra.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Larry. He is survived by his brothers, Frank and Jerry.
Don was a skilled welder and licensed as a High Pressure Boiler Engineer. For most of his career, he worked as the building manager for the West 7th Community Center where he retired after 20 years of service.
He was a loyal Green Bay Packers fan and handyman who could fix just about anything. He was always willing to lend a hand and took pride in his work. Don also had a passion for storytelling, particularly sharing tales of his upbringing in rural Wisconsin. His stories will forever echo in the hearts of those who had the honor of sharing those special moments with him. Don's stubbornness and strong-willed nature were traits that defined him, but he approached life with unwavering determination.
Don will be remembered for his quick wit, hardworking spirit, and steadfast commitment to his family and work. His legacy lives on in the hearts of those who knew him and his spirit will be forever cherished.
Memorial service 12 PM on Friday, July 28, 2023 at Kessler & Maguire Funeral Home, 640 W 7th St, St Paul. Visitation 1 hour before Service.
