Elsie Minnie Heine of St. Paul passed away at age 95 on April 13, 2015. Elsie was born in Blue Hill, Nebraska on February 6, 1920 to Henry and Antony (Schlichtman) Magarin. She was the middle of five daughters. She attended school in Dist. 50 Pleasant Valley in Nebraska. At age 17 she went to work in Gothenburg, Nebraska for Dr. Bert Pyle and his wife Florence taking care of their children during the week and working at the clinic on weekends.
Elsie married Ervin Frederick Heine on April 24, 1948 in Cozad, Nebraska. They then had two children; Linda (1948) and Stephen (1950). They moved to St. Paul, Minnesota in 1953 where their third child John (1955) was born. Elsie worked at the Arden Inn in Arden Hills as the 'Salad Girl,' cleaned homes for several people, and later retired from the Lexington Restaurant on Grand Avenue where she worked in food preparation. Elsie volunteered at Adams Elementary School and was on the PTA. She was a Cub Scout Den Leader. She was a longtime member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church and was a member of Ladies' Aid, Choir, Altar Guild, was a Sunday School Teacher, and helped Linda with many office tasks. She belonged to TOPS and SOS at Palace and St. Clair Community Centers. Elsie was called "Mur" by her grandchildren and loved to spend time with her family. She was proud to show off her grandkids and great grandkids. She enjoyed her flower gardens, and her pets- dogs, birds and cats. She loved looking at the clouds and the moon. Elsie was preceded in death by her parents, husband Ervin, sisters Irene, Florene, and Ethel, son-in-law Joe, and grandson. She will be deeply missed by her daughter Linda Schwartz, ; sons Stephen (Debbie); and John (Rita); grandchildren Brian (Stephanie) Schwartz; Dan (Sarah) Schwartz; Kim Skarda; Annette (Mike) Easley; Tara; Steven (Jaclyn); and Mary (Brent) Diehl; 13 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; sister Viola Johnson; and many nieces & nephews. Memorial Service to be held at St. Peters Lutheran, 530 S. Victoria, St. Paul on Sat, April 25 at 11:00 am. Visitation one hour before. In lieu of flowers memorials preferred to St. Peters or your preference
