Margaret Alfonso

April 11, 1916 — April 30, 2011

Born on "the Levee" in St. Paul's little Italy to Italian immigrant parents Cosmo and Carmella Todora. She was the youngest of 7 siblings and the last survivor. She was spoiled rotten by her sisters, Rose and Mary and brothers Joe, Pete, Tony and Lenny and missed them terribly over the years. She was a Tomboy at heart and loved to hang out with her brothers and play sports in her youth. She was a fierce competitor and even at age 95 did not like to lose at a game of cards. She died Saturday, April 30th just two weeks after her 95th birthday. She died like she lived, fighting until the end and surrounded by her family bustling around her trying to make her comfortable. She was preceded in death by husband of 70 years, Dominic Alfonso Sr. and youngest son, Gerry and beloved nieces Mary "Redtop" and Rose and many other nieces and nephews. She is survived by daughter Angela (Ron) Bergum and son Dominic Jr. (Annette) Alfonso and her grandchildren Cindy Bergum (Bill Schmechel), Lynn (Jeff) Schabacker, Dominic III (Nancy) Alfonso, Anna Alfonso, Eric (Amy) Bergum, Mike (Laurie) Bergum. Great grandchildren, Matt, Jessica, Shelby Schabacker, Dominic IV and Joseph Alfonso, Casey O'Hara, Taylor, Jaclyn, Andrew Bergum & C.J., Abby, and Anthony Bergum. She is also survived by her nieces Annette (Vern) Shaffhausen, Anna (John) Frascone, Babe Tallarico and Nephews, Muzz Todora, Don (Duck) (Mary Ann) Todora and many other relatives and friends. She loved nothing better than being surrounded by her family and always had an open door for friends and family to stop for a visit and food; especially for holidays and Sunday spaghetti. She was really something and will be long remembered. Mass of Christian Burial Friday 11 AM at ST. JAMES CATHOLIC CHURCH (View at Juno). Visitation Thursday 4-8 at KESSLER & MAGUIRE 640 W. 7th St. 651-224-2341. Visitation also 1 hr prior to mass at church. int. Resurrection Cemetery.
