Mary Jo Skaggs

Mary Jo Kisch Skaggs died peacefully on June 18, 2024. She was born on December 18, 1939 to Matthew and Josephine Kisch in Minneapolis, MN. After the premature death of her mother, she moved with her father and brothers to the family home in St Paul. Mary Jo attended St Francis de Sales Elementary School and St Joseph’s Academy. In 1957 she enrolled at the College of Catherine, graduating in 1961 with a BA in History and election to Phi Beta Kappa. Mary Jo studied in the Netherlands in 1961-62 on a Fulbright Fellowship. On returning to Minnesota, she began a successful career teaching in the North St Paul district. Mary Jo enjoyed classical music, playing the organ, live theatre, travel, and all manner of art. She was especially proud of serving as president of both the St. Catherine’s Alumnae Association and the St Paul AAUW/College Club. 

Mary Jo was preceded in death by her parents, Josephine and Mathew, Sr.; aunt Anna, and brothers, John and Mathew, Jr. She is survived by her husband, Richard; sister-in-law, Kathy; nephew, Mathew; niece, Angela; and many cousins and friends. 

Burial Mass at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, 650 Palace Avenue, St. Paul, MN, 55102 on Tuesday, July 16, visitation at 10AM and Mass at 11AM. In lieu of flowers, please send Memorials to the Mary Jo Kisch Skaggs scholarship at St Catherine University.
