Wayne Helgason, 59, of
St. Paul
passed away unexpectedly on Friday, October 16, 2009.
Wayne
was born on December 27, 1949 to Stefan and Lillian Helgason in
Gardar
,
North Dakota
. He grew up in the Twin Cities and attended the
University
of
Minnesota
.
Wayne
married Kathy Sullivan on Sept. 10, 1977 in
Stillwater
. Together they raised four children.
Wayne
was known for his sincerity, intellect, mentorship, and love for his family and friends. He enjoyed family get-togethers, reading, and coffee and fellowship with friends. He was an avid golfer and even shot two holes-in-one during his many years on the links.
Wayne
touched many people’s lives and will be greatly missed by all. To say he was extraordinary in the eyes of his family wouldn’t be enough.
Wayne is survived by his wife, Kathy; children, Jennifer Garrett of Eagan, MN, Grayson (Jennifer) Helgason of New Brighton, MN, Keely Helgason of Henderson, MN and Eric Helgason of St. Paul; six grandchildren, Kayla and Mariah Gregg, Chase and Maddy Garrett, Alyssa and Alayna Helgason; siblings Stuart (Laurie) Helgason of Lake Elmo, MN, Harvey (Jane) Helgason of Indianapolis, Debbie (Ric) West of Buffalo, MN, Lowell (Anne) Helgason of Minneapolis; sister-in-laws, Connie Sullivan of Stillwater, Michelle (Derek) of Stillwater, Maureen (Ted) Thomsen of Stillwater, Mary Beth Junker of Stillwater; brother-in-law,
Jerry (Krissy) Sullivan of Stillwater; mother Lillian (Don) Mrydal of Fargo, ND; mother-in-law Barbara Sullivan of Stillwater; ex-wife Karen McKelvey and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by father Stefan; sister Sharon Helgason; father-in-law David Sullivan and nephew Shamus Helgason.
